As the nursing home industry strives to make senior living facilities more home-like and less institutional, visiting a loved one in a nursing home can be very difficult for families and friends.  Even though there are many reasons for the reluctance to visit someone in a nursing facility and many emotions involved, it is important to make their stay easier and more pleasurable. This program is designed to help participants identify with nursing home residents and to identify the emotions that may be preventing quality visits in order to assist visitors have a more comfortable and meaningful visit with their loved one. Practical ideas for making visits more valuable and enjoyable will be shared.
Objective:

  • Examine the challenges and opportunities to living in a long term care facility
  • Learn the importance of effective communication skills
  • Explore strategies for successful nursing home visits for families and friends
