Description:
Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia are becoming an epidemic amongst our aging seniors, and even more so now, young adults. It's imperative as healthcare professionals to truly understand this disease in order to provide the best quality care. Dr. Jennifer Stelter, Clinical Psychologist, and Jessica Ryan, Biologist, from NeuroEssence, LLC at the Dementia Connection Institute, will review in this live webinar what is dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, the symptoms associated, and what happens as the disease progresses, as well as treatment and non-pharmacological approaches to care that have shown success by using the Dementia Connection ModelĀ© developed by Dr. Stelter. Learn communications strategies and how to handle challenging response behaviors with a number of tools for your toolbox, while taking into consideration preferences and diversity.

This program meets the requirements of Public Act 102-0399, amending the Department of Professional Regulation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois, adding Section 2105-365 which requires that health care professionals who provide services to and have direct patient contact with adults age 26 or older to have one hour of continuing education training on the diagnosis, treatment and care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias per renewal period.
Objective:

  • Understand the prevalence of Alzheimer's dementia, as well as the diagnostic procedures, symptoms, and prognosis.
  • Learn how to best connect to someone living with dementia through effective communication strategies.
  • Take away a handful of non-pharmacological tools through a new approach to care that helps in ADL care and managing negative response behaviors.
