Implicit bias is a common form of bias that affects the judgments, decisions, and behaviors of healthcare professionals unconsciously and unintentionally. As a healthcare professional, it is crucial to understand the impact of implicit bias in healthcare and how it can affect patient outcomes.

 

This course is specifically designed for physicians and nurses but is applicable to all health and allied health professionals who want to increase awareness of implicit bias and taking proactive steps to mitigate its effects, providing more equitable care to all patients..

Participants will learn effective strategies to recognize when implicit bias is occurring and methods to reduce bias in their practice.

This program meets the standards outlined in Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation Section 1130.500, requiring all health care professionals complete a compliant one-hour course in implicit bias awareness training.
Objective:

Upon completion of this training, participants will

  1. Understand the concepts of explicit and implicit bias in the healthcare arena.
  2. Examine causes and function of implicit bias and its impact on healthcare outcomes.
  3. Gain strategies to address personal and professional biases, implementing evidence-based practicies to increase diversity in healthcare.
